Задание I. Определите функции глаголов to be u to have. Переведите предложения на русский язык.

1.Behind the diaphragm are small pieces, or granules, of carbon.

Задание III. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на модальные глаголы.

1. The message must be sent immediately.

Вежливость по-английски

Прежде всего, для правильного общения и выполнения контрольных работ, запомните два важных слова: please («пожалуйста» в предложениях, выражающих просьбу) и thank you («спасибо»). Это — краеугольные камни английской вежливости. Слова please и thank you постоянно употребляются в речи. Произнося эти слова, нужно улыбаться (smile!). Одна из причин, заставивших нашего героя извиниться, состояла в том, что он принял своего собеседника за англичанина, в то время как тот был шотландцем. А  это— существенное различие, такое же существенное, как, например, различие между русским и украинцем или русским и белорусом. Валлийцам и ирландцам тоже не очень нравится, когда их называют англичанами. И все же есть общее название для англичан, шотландцев, валлийцев и северных ирландцев: это слово британцы.

Английский язык не делает разницы между ты и вы. Это сильно упрощает жизнь и не только при изучении языка!

Глагол be

Английский глагол to be  соответствует русскому «быть». Оба слова означают одно и то же, но употребляются по-разному: русский глагол «быть» не принято спрягать в настоящем времени, и чаще всего он просто отсутствует в предложении, а английский глагол be всегда «на посту».
